IBTM Americas 2022: the events industry facing digitalization

The long awaited 2022 edition of IBTM Americas finally took place last August 24th and 25th. Great colleagues and members from the MICE industry attended Centro Citibanamex to be part of the event where more than 450 exhibitors presented the best of their brand.

This year’s theme was Feel the events’ energy, under which more than 150 stands became meeting points that resulted in 9,720 business appointments. For three days, 2,600 visitors including 520 Hosted Buyers, brought to life the most important meetings industry event, addressing the 7 fundamental pillars to every event planner:

  • Events transformation
An event is possible through a variety of resources, and when they evolve, the results do too. Besides, there are many strategies to transform a good event into an awesome experience, as the attendees could see in this series of conferences.
  • Sustainability on events
Our environment and its resources preservation have become very important subjects internationally. From the way a product with a story behind it can have a positive impact in events to the best strategies to reduce ecological impact, some specialists reunited with Colectivo sustentable to talk about everything in different conferences.
  • Events design
What’s the key to an outstanding event? Being conscious there is now a digital, a hybrid and in person options to attend, the answer to this question and the most recent trends shaped the events design panel, receiving event planners from different specialties.
  • Association’s Lab
For any association it is very important to communicate things the right way, and due to the event industry evolution and its new possibilities, it is necessary to be updated. That is why IBTM Americas reunited experts to form a panel directed specifically to association’s event planners.
  • Pharma event organization
This sector, even though it’s very specific, continues to be vital since the international health situation is still a concern.
  • Romance events
This is one of the most active sectors of the industry throughout the year, especially since events in person started happening again. For that reason, the second day of IBTM Americas was highlighted with the presence of different romance experts.
  • Sports events
Sports tourism is one of the principal sectors of the international economy, whether it is as an incentive or as a celebration. In addition, sports professionals always know how to motivate a team facing any challenge.

Related to all this, some of the most visited conferences centered around the upcoming digital trends. The most mentioned ones were the new multiverse created by Meta and the digital marketing strategies, where we could find that video content is being more successful than other formats. Coming back to face-to-face events and event opportunities around the world were also very discussed topics.

One of the most popular subjects was economy, because after an international health crisis and an absolute transformation of event activities, it is a fact that everything is now different. Virtuality brought many options that event planners have seen reflect in the budgets, and even when some of them are beneficial, it’s very important to evaluate all these factors to keep growing.

This kind of events offer a great opportunity to generate connections and business opportunities, as well as an opportunity to learn that can create a path towards more accessible, sustainable, and updated events, transforming every one of them into a unique memory.

Undoubtedly, this experience demonstrated that the events industry is also a close community, and how happy we all are to have met again. Do not forget we will be waiting for you in 2023!
