Energy management: Key to a Sustainable Event

Sustainable events have become usual in the meetings industry. As the situation has required actions from all industries across the world, event professionals have worked together with the most creative minds in the industry, and, with some support from technology innovations, they’ve created different solutions to enhance any type of event.

With options that go from green venues to carbon footprint apps, every detail of an event can be transformed into an opportunity to reduce our impact on the environment. That’s why event professionals have developed a lot of options to reduce and manage energy use at every event. Some of those are:

• Lighting
  Even when lighting is very necessary for certain types of events, reducing its impact is possible if we learn to take advantage of natural light. This can be achieved by adjusting the Schedule and the decoration according to the placement of windows and other sources of sunlight.
  
  LED lights are another useful option. These lights not only spend significantly less energy but also last longer than conventional lightbulbs, which would eventually reduce the venue’s waste.
  
  
• High Efficiency
  Due to the increasingly high need to find sustainable solutions in every aspect of life, many companies have created high energy efficiency devices that consume less energy. They are especially useful at large events, and some of them even have a special feature to turn off automatically when inactive.
  
  
• Sustainable materials
  Almost any aspect of social and corporate events have a sustainable alternative aimed to reduce the amount of waste, and a lot of times that includes energy management. For example, instead of using disposable plates, you could use biodegradable or even better: non-disposable plates that can be washed. This will not only reduce the amount of energy needed to create a whole new package of disposables, but it will also drastically reduce the waste volume.
  
  

Undoubtedly, the meetings industry will continue evolving to responsibly manage energy use. Another options, such as selecting a venue close to a charging station for electric vehicles, smart refrigerators or AC adjustments would also help enhance the event’s sustainability, but also to prove to your clients and attendees the social commitment to look after the environment we all share.
